The new Construction Trades Building at the Yuut Elitnaurviat site near Pinky's Park in Bethel.
A summer Construction Academy for 18-22 year olds is being held for the first time in Bethel at Yuut Elitnaurviat's Construction Trades Shop, recently opened adjacent to Pinky's Park. The program will take place May 31-June 17. This training has been developed and sponsored by Alaska Works partnership, the Lower Kuskokwim School District and Yuut Elitnaurviat People's Learning Center.
The Academy is part of an effort to increase job and training opportunities in the YK Delta. Participants in the academy will attend math enrichment classes, receive OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR certification, HILTI (power actuated tools), and carpentry skills training. The program also includes more than 50 hours of hands-on activities. As a result of the Academy, successful students will have an opportunity to continue their training in a building trade with a local employer.
Academy applications will be accepted at Yuut Elitnaurviat, 215 BNC Building, Bethel. They are due as soon as possible. The first 20 qualified applicants will be accepted to the Construction Academy. The cost of the training is $350. Tuition assistance may be available.
