The EARTH study measures up.
The first study of its kind to research how traditional lifestyle, culture, and diet may prevent chronic diseases will be moving around the YK Delta over the next several months.
The Education and Research Towards Health (EARTH) Study seeks to understand and promote health in Alaska Natives and American Indians.
EARTH study is funded by the National Cancer Institute and jointly supported by YKHC, South Central Foundation (SCF) and Souteast Alaska Regional Health Corp. (SEARHC). We are looking for people to help with the study and contribute a couple of hours of their time to this important project.
All participants will receive a health and wellness summary, an EARTH Study T- shirt, and $20 cash for their help.
To qualify, volunteers must be over 18 years old and Alaska Native.
Participants will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about their health and the EARTH Study team will record a few measurements (height, weight, blood pressure, etc). A finger prick blood sample will be taken to test cholesterol and blood sugar. The entire process takes about 2 1/2 hours.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the health of Alaska Native people and be part of a large effort to achieve excellent health for our people.
The Study group is currently in Napaskiak and will be moving to Kongiganak, Kwigillingok, Pilot Station, and Marshall this month. Please feel free to stop by the health clinic in any of these villages to find out about enrolling.
