Water Lab Analyst Monica Thompson was awarded Large System Lab Analyst of the Year at this years Alaska Water Wastewater Management Association (AWWMA) conference in Anchorage on May 10. This award is given annually, state-wide, to an individual who works with large water and/or wastewater utility systems in Alaska for excellence in performance of analytical laboratory services. It marks the first time someone from the Yukon-Kuskokwim region has received this recognition.
YKHC congratulates Monica Thompson on her award and her ongoing commitment to improving the water quality of the Delta. Since joining YKHCs Office of Environmental Health & Engineering (OEHE) in 1998, she has become state-certified and has remained committed to keeping the laboratory in operation and improving the quality of life for people in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
The OEHE Water Quality Laboratory maintains Alaska Department of Conservation (ADEC) certification, and is the only state certified water lab in the region. The laboratory provides service to 47 villages, 17 schools and 38 local businesses, to ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
