Lil Pardners Ride 'em at the Bike Rodeo

by Kyla Hagan, Injury Control/EMS

This years 2006 Annual Bike Safety Rodeo was a great success. 171 helmets were fitted for children and dozens more children attended with their helmets already on and ready to ride.

Children were fitted for new helmets if needed; they received the four-point safety check on their bicycles, watched a safety video, practiced bike safety skills on the obstacle course, rode in circles in the parking lot and ate yummy hot dogs and potato salad.

Do your part by reminding children to wear their helmets! It dramatically reduces the risk of head injury in the event of a crash. It is also a Bethel city ordinance that anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while riding a bicycle.

If your child didn't recieve a helmet, they are still available from YKHC ICEMS for $10. Call extension 6085.

The Bike Rodeo Committee is composed of YKHC ICEMS, City of Bethel Parks and Recreation, Bethel Police Department, Boy Scouts and Bethel State Troopers.

Donations were provided by BVESA, YKHC Diabetes, VFW, AC Store, Lions Club, YKHC ICEMS, Bethel Parks and Rec.

Be Safe! Be Seen! Make sure that you have reflectors on your clothing!
