Alakanuk Career Fair

The Alakanuk Adult Basic Education program held a career fair for the community July 17 –19. Native Hire Coordinator Ruth “Wally” Richardson, YK AHEC Executive Director Lauri O’Brien, and Career Pathways Manager Letha Chimegalrea Simon participated for one day of this event. They presented and shared information on health career, education and scholarship opportunities within the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation.

Participants were from all ages, from the primary level to elders. Door prizes were given and all lucky participants won one of the following: water bottles, CD cases, silicone bracelets, mood pencils, pencil sharpeners, carabiners, memo boards, and canvas bags.

Careers fairs are an excellent way to share and inform students and adults, especially in the rural communities, about career opportunities within and around their community to encourage them to take on the important roles in the workplace.
