Sixth Grade students from Kilbuck Elementary and Ayaprun Elitnaurvik met Mr. Bones in the Radiology Dept. during their tour of the Bethel Hospital last month.
Sixth Graders get close-up look at hospital careers
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital hosted the annual Sixth Grade Tour on May 2 for almost 100 students from Kilbuck Elementary and Ayaprun Elitnaurvik schools.
Students toured the Emergency Room for an overview of equipment use and assessment of patients and took an in-depth look at the skeletal composition of Mr. Bones as revealed by digital X-ray. They saw a tour guide’s tummy by ultrasound at Diagnostic Imaging, attended mini workshops conducted by Dental and Nicotine Control departments about the rewards of good oral care and the dangers of tobacco use, and played a round of freeze tag officiated by Healthy Hearts.
The Career Pathways Program would like to send a special thanks to Rafe Johnson, Georgianna Starr, and their crew of volunteers from Kilbuck Elementary and Ayaprun Elitnaurvik for their assistance with the tour, and to all YKHC departments, employees, and volunteer tour guides for taking time away from their busy schedules to show these students exciting careers at YKHC.
