State Attorney General meets with Bethel agencies
During a visit to the offices of the Bethel District Attorneys July 9, State of Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg, met with Bethel community leaders and YKHC administration during an open forum reception in the YKHC Board Room.
Specific issues that were brought to the attention of the Attorney General were related to law enforcement, the judicial system, therapeutic court, and youth recidivism in the Delta.
Attorney General Colberg sent greetings from Governor Palin. “We are a lightning point for many friction points in the State of Alaska,” said Colberg. “We are trying to see the long term goal for all Alaskans and seek a common ground for the best of us.”
Representative Mary Nelson was in attendance along with Bethel’s City Manager Wally Baird, and several organizational leaders from Bethel Native Corporation, Association of Village Council Presidents, Tundra Women’s Coalition, Kuskokwim University Campus, Orutsararmiut Native Council, Bethel Community Services Foundation, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Calista Corporation.
As Alaska’s Attorney General, Colberg is a member of the Governor’s cabinet and heads up the 500 professionals that work for the Department of Law.
Colberg serves as the legal advisor for the governor and other state officers, prosecutes all violations of state criminal law, represents the state in all civil lawsuits and administrative proceedings to which the state is a party, enforces the consumer protection and unfair trade practices laws, and protects rate payers in proceedings before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA), the state agency that regulates utilities.
Colberg, 48, is a life-long Alaskan.
