Moms and caregivers unite for World Breast Feeding Week August 1–7

The international and national committees for World Breastfeeding Week joined together to promote the health and well being of all the children in the world. This year’s theme was “Breastfeeding in the first hour—Welcome Baby Softly.”

Babies who breastfeed in the first hour of birth are better protected from virus and diseases and they make a better transition. In a pediatrics study it is estimated that 41 percent of neonatal deaths between 2 and 28 days could have been prevented if the babies were breast-fed.

Almost all women can breast feed successfully with the proper support and information. YKHC has a volunteer committee that promotes breast-feeding hand in hand with WIC and the OB Dept. Any woman who wants to breastfeed can find all the answers she needs through these departments.

We help support working mothers by offering pumps and information for safe breast milk storage. There are safe and private areas in both WIC and OB to breastfeed if you need them.

Some simple supportive facts about breast-feeding

By choosing breastfeeding you will be saving your family more than $1000 in the first six months—and that is if you are receiving WIC!
