Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) program update
The CISM program provided incident response follow-up services in one village in September, offering a feelings-processing group with high school students, and individual and group interventions with family members of the victim. The CHAP Support Counselor has provided ongoing support and counseling for clinic staff and SIs, and has conducted group debriefings and individual interventions with clinic staff in various villages.
The CISM program also sponsored a four-day CISM training in which 25 people from YKHC's Behavioral Health Department, the YKHC Sexual Assault Response Team, the YKHC Women's Health program, and the Alaska State Troopers were certified in Basic Group and Individual CISM. This training greatly increased the number of villages with CISM-trained individuals, and expanded agencies' existing CISM capabilities.
On November 7 and 8, a group of CISM-trained individuals will undergo Advanced CISM training for certification. This training is designed to prepare CISM team members to be response team leaders. The CISM program coordinator will also institute a regular training schedule for CISM team members; this should be operational in December.
