YKHC awarded settlement in court case against Indian Health Service

According to a decision released this week by the U.S. Civilian Board of Contract Appeals in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation vs. the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, YKHC has been awarded more than $25 million plus interest from 1996, in the largest judgment ever recovered against the U.S. Indian Health Service.

YKHC, AVCP to begin distributing CITGO fuel donation to Delta residents

Despite a slight delay in logistics, the CITGO fuel donation program will be gifting more than 400,000 gallons of fuel to households across the Delta next month, valued at more than $2 million dollars.

Frostnip or Frostbite

Frostnip is a relatively mild form of cold injury that goes away minutes or seconds after warming with no permanent damage. Frostbite is the term for damage to the skin and other tissues caused by freezing. Frostnip and Frostbite cases have steadily declined over the last several years due to better cold weather clothing and equipment.

Tobacco Summit comes to Bethel next month

In 1998, the City of Bethel became the first community in Alaska to clear the air by passing an ordinance banning smoking in public buildings and workplaces. To honor Bethel's commitment to community health, the Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the state's first community clean air act by hosting the second annual ATCA summit meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 5-6, 2008, in Bethel.
