Sixth graders get a demonstration of what goes on in the Emergency Room.
Tour teaches youngsters about health careers
On Thursday, May 8th, over 100 sixth grade students from Kilbuck Elementary and Ayaprun Elitnaurvik, Bethel's Yup'ik immersion school, toured the YKHC hospital and Optometry and Dental clinics.
Each year, the Career Pathways Program coordinates the effort to showcase health career opportunities and encourage young people into the health care workforce.
Students walked through the Hospital's Emergency Room, Diagnostic Imaging department, and Pharmacy, and then toured the CHSB building, moving through Dental and Optometry, lastly hearing presentations by Nicotine Control & Research in the Board Room.
Many employees were involved in the annual 6th Grade Tour event, teaching students about the career field.
"Thank you to the school teachers, and the YKHC departments, employees and volunteer tour guides, who made this a successful event," said Nancy Widrig, Career Pathways Manager. "Exciting health careers were introduced and education was shared to over 100 students."
