Natalia Heckman of Pilot Station was voted Outstanding DCP.
Direct Care Providers Conference May 19-23
Direct Care Providers (DCPs) gathered in Bethel for the annual Direct Care Provider conference held May 19-23. The weeklong training includes clinical instruction and education, medication management and skills development.
Out of 60 DCPs spread across the Yukon-Kuskokwim region, 22 attended the May conference. Four sessions are held each year to address the training for all providers.
DCPs work with consumers who experience developmental disabilities or mental illness. Based in each village, DCPs provide in-home support or day habilitation services, coordinating village-based services, assisting clients in accessing resources and working with tribal councils to ensure clients are safe.
Natalia Heckman of Pilot Station was voted by her peers and staff as the Outstanding DCP.
"Natalia is a model Direct Care Provider who works well with clients and their families," said Kathy Turner, Director of Developmental Disabilities. "She is a great asset on our entire team of providers." Heckman began working as a DCP in March.
