Denali Commission welcomed

Representatives from the Denali Commission met with YKHC Executive Board Members and administrative leadership on June 25 and took a tour of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital (YKDRH).
Federal Co-Chair of the Denali Commission George Cannelos was joined by Mike Marsh, Inspector General; Jimmy Smith, State of Alaska liaison; Michael Ketover, visiting Inspector General; and Joseph Kull and Ed Mazur, Federal Financial Management Advisory Committee members.
Board Chairman Ray Alstrom welcomed the Commission representatives following brief introductions.Board members conveyed appreciation for the Denali Commission's support of numerous infrastructure projects in the region, including new construction and remodeling of village health clinics.
YKHC's Patty Smith, Patient Care Services Administrator; Ellen Hodges, Hospital Chief of Staff; Louise Reed, Outpatient Clinics Director; and Robert Rang, Chief Nurse Executive, led the tour of the hospital, spotlighting the new CT scanner, the current remodeling of the OB unit, and the overall operations of western Alaska's largest hospital.
After touring YKHC, the Denali Commission representatives toured Yuut Elitnaurviat, the Tundra Women's Coalition, and several locations in Kwethluk.
Congress created the Denali Commission in 1998 as a federal-state partnership that would provide necessary utilities, infrastructure, and economic support within Alaska.
