Senior Health & Fitness Day

A celebration of National Senior Health and Fitness Day drew a crowd of motivated elders to the Log Cabin on Tuesday, Aug 19.
After a blood pressure and glucose screening, all 22 participants gathered in a circle to stretch and warm-up. Following the warm-ups, senior citizens walked around Pinky's Park for fresh air and exercise. While walking, elders chatted about the many nutritious roots and berries growing along the boardwalk.
For the past four years YKHC's Diabetes Program has organized the activities. This year Public Health Nursing collaborated with YKHC to host the event. Senior Health and Fitness Day is a fun and important reminder to stay active, as our senior citizens are our resource. "Every year I join," said participant Catherine Peters of Bethel, " It's exciting for me and I know it's good for our health. We get our blood pressure and glucose checked. We go for a walk and enjoy our friends."
Thank you to everyone who participated in the screenings and to all those who helped organize another successful Senior Health and Fitness Day!
