Steps To a Healthier You

Make PHYSICAL ACTIVITY a regular part of the day
Some ways to increase physical activity
At home:
- Recruit a walking partner for support and encouragement or join a walking group.
- Push the baby in a stroller.
- Enjoy an afternoon bike ride with your kids.
- Walk the dog - don't just watch the dog walk.
- Clean the house or wash the car.
- Walk, skate or cycle more and drive less.
- Do stretches, exercises or pedal a stationary bike while watching television.
- Plant and care for a vegetable or flower garden.
- Play with the kids - build a snowman, splash in a puddle or dance to a favorite music.
- Take a class in yoga, dance, or martial arts.
At work:
- Park at the farthest spot in the parking lot and walk to the building.
- Replace a coffee break with a brisk 10-minute walk. Ask a friend or co-worker to walk with you.
- Cut short your lunch break and walk for the rest of your lunch time.
- Join an exercise program at work or a nearby gym.
- Walk to work.
Some more suggestions:
- Join the City Softball League
- Go berry-picking
- Try a new sport like cross-country skiing
- Walk to the Post Office
- Go to open gym
- Slog across the tundra in your bunny boots in the middle of July.
- Help a local dog musher train for the K-300
