Oscarville's Marie Jacob named Health Aide of the Month
Marie Jacob of Oscarville recieved the Health Aide of the month award for August 2008. Marie was hired December 1, 1973, and has been with the CHAP program ever since, working in the Oscarville clinic. She recieved her CHP certification in February 1976.
Oscarville is a small community of just over 65 people. Marie has been serving her community's health care needs since she began her career as a health aide.
"I am very happy for Marie Jacob and I commend her for all the hard work she has done all these years," said Supervisor Instructor Balassa Larson. "She is a dedicated competent CHP and the people in the Community of Oscarville are very fortuneate to have her as their health care provider."
Marie has shown extraordinary dedication to her community's health for more than 30 years. And not only as a health aide: She is currently the Oscarville Tribal Council President and is mentoring a new health aide, Marita Stevens.
Environmental Health Officer Brek Steele, who has visited the Oscarville clinic regularly, said, " It has been a great experience to visit the Oscarville clinic and watch it transform. Even though Marie has had the challenge of working in a small, old clinic without piped water and sewer she has managed to create a clean and safe environment for the staff and patients. When issues arise she does not complain or make excuses but steps up to resolve the issues to the best of her abilities."
Steele was especially impressed with Marie's medicine cabinet. "No expired medicines, practicing first in first out (FIFO) procedure correctly, cabinet was kept locked, the key was hidden, the room where the cabinet was stored was also kept locked.
