Emmonak SRC staff earns Patient Satisfaction honors

With Patient Satisfaction at 83.4 percent, the staff at the Pearl E. Johnson Subregional Clinic in Emmonak earned the July 2008 Patient Satisfaction Award.
On Sept. 5, Health Services Vice President Jack Crow presented the staff with a bowl made from a birch tree burl to commemorate their achievement. The award is based on scores received from Press Ganey, YKHC's patient satisfaction tracking vendor.
One key factor that plays into the staff's high rate of patient satisfaction are weekly staff meetings.
"There was a time that departments were so busy that they weren't seeing how busy other departments were," Operations Manager Valerie Andrew said. "The meetings help us check in with each other and acknowledge our hard work."
The meetings also allow time for the staff to focus on team values and goals and thank each other for a job well done.
"Every Friday during our staff meetings, thank yous are expressed throughout the staff. The thank yous are a way of patting each other on the back and encouraging each other, especially after a hard week," On Call Assistant Edna Damin said.
Everyone working at the Clinic is in a higher education or certification course. Employee Development is another focus at the clinic.
"In a recent meeting we all took time to write down our personal goals," Andrew said. "Each person wrote that they want to do the best they can do. So we make sure to provide the training they need to achieve that goal."
The birch bowl will be displayed at the clinic in Emmonak until next month when it will be passed on to the next Patient Satisfaction Champions.
Congratulations to the staff at the Pearl E. Johnson Subregional Clinic, keep up the hard work!
