New Napartet vision, values and goals announced for FY09

With YKHC's new fiscal year beginning this month, the corporate goals for the year under the Napartet initiative have been enacted.

Napartet represents the way of working at YKHC. The traditional Yup'ik/Cup'ik meaning of the word "Napartet" is: a ship's mast; something holding up a structure, like stilts on a house or a cache; a stick that is used to mark a trail or a particular spot on the tundra. The initiative is supported by five "pillars" through which the corporation's mission is implemented.

The Pillars and Goals

Patient-Centered Excellence: Increase Press Ganey scores of "Very Good" to 50 percent.

Employee Focus: Increase employee satisfaction with Senior Leadership communication by 10 percent.

Alaska Native Workforce Development: Maintain 100 percent recruitment and increase graduation rates for the Registered Nurse and Dental Health Aide/Therapist programs.

Community & Partner Satisfaction: Increase Tribal Council satisfaction to 80 percent.

Financial Viability: Collect $56.9 million in net patient care revenue.

An additional core value, Elder Knowledge, was adopted by YKHC's Board of Directors during their April meeting earlier this year and the language of the Vision Statement was changed to read, "Through Native Self-Determination and culturally relevant health systems, we strive to be the healthiest people." By replacing the word "shall" with "strive," the Board of Directors believes the language will more closely reflect our vision while preserving Yup'ik tradition.

New posters have been created within YKHC's Administrative Division to communicate the new goals and the new Vision and Values statements. These posters are available at the Public Relations office on the third floor of the Community Health Services Building in Bethel. The posters can also be downloaded from our website at www.ykhc.org under the Publications tab.
