By Tiffany Zulkosky
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation would like to highlight two new providers who will be offering health care services to the patients of the YK Delta.
Cynthia Mondesir, MD
Dr. Mondesir joined the YKDRH team after completing a three-year pediatric residency at New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. She received her Bachelors Degree in Biology from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, in 1995. In 2005, she completed her M.D. from Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Mondesir comes to YKHC with years of experience, volunteerism and awards. In 2005 alone, she received the E.V. Fluent in Haitian Creole and conversational Spanish, Dr. Mondesir has been a participant in the Student National Medical Association, a volunteer in Women in Science Day, a fundraiser participant in an AIDS Walk, and a Leadership Development Program Participant as part of the Family Practice Interest Group.
Her diverse experience will be a notable strength as part of our local staff and, in her first month, has already proved to be a compassionate Pediatrician for the region's children.
Gulnara Aliyeva, MD
Dr. Aliyeva will be a family practice physician at YKDRH beginning in late October. Originally from Azerbaijan, she received a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, in 2000. She is a recent graduate of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR.
Dr. Aliyeva was a recipient of the Edmund Muskie Fellowship in May 1998. The Fellowship is a highly selective program established by the U.S. Congress, providing full tuition and living expenses of citizens of Newly Independent States seeking a Master's Degree in the United States.
Including experience at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C., Dr. Aliyeva has worked at United Aid for Azerbaijan, SOS International, and International Medical Corps in Baku, Azerbaijan. Fluent in Turkish, Russian, and English, she also knows basic French and Spanish. She has presented or published her work at Georgetown University Hospital; Oslo, Norway; and Cluj, Romania.
We are confident that Dr. Aliyeva will provide quality care to her patients of the YK Delta and we look forward to her joining the YKHC team!
