Tribal representatives discuss health care priorities during last year’s Tribal Gathering.
16th Tribal Gathering set for April 1-2
Throughout the past 15 years regional Tribal representatives have come together to address critical health care issues at YKHC's annual Tribal Unity Gatherings.
This year's Gathering will be held April 1-2 at Bethel's Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center. Through dialog between YKHC's leadership and people who use YKHC's services, the scope and direction of health care improvements over the years have evolved. As a result, YKHC is stronger and services, both at the village level and at the hospital in Bethel, are more responsive to the real needs of the people.
The theme of this 16th Tribal Gathering is "A Healthy Mind and Heart." The theme will focus attention on cardiovascular health and the critical need for suicide prevention in Western Alaska communities.
The Gathering is a two-day conference. Participants will address key health care issues and explore solutions through collaborative work group sessions. The conference will end with establishing health care priorities for 2009. The tentative agenda and more information regarding the conference will be available in the next few weeks on our website.
YKHC will arrange travel for two Tribal Council members to fly into Bethel to attend the Gathering. For more information, contact your Tribal Council office or call YKHC's Public Relations Dept. at 907-543-6038.
We look forward to this year's Gathering and the opportunity to move forward in our mission of "Working Together to Achieve Excellent Health."
