The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) School of Nursing Associate Degree Program launched a new cohort on Jan. 12, 2009. The local program, made possible by partnerships with YKHC and the UAF Kuskokwim Campus, has nine students from across the YK Delta region.

The students in the new class include: Kendra Harding, Boris Forester, Sandra Fox, Bessie Francis, Kristen Kinegak, Kevin Phelan, Michelle Simmons, Irene Beaver, and Nikki Pollock.

"The new students have very much impressed me," said Mary Weiss, Assistant Professor for the UAA School of Nursing. "They have great attitudes, a lot of skills, and I am very excited to see how well they will do in the program."

Upon successful completion of the two-year program, students will receive an Associate's Degree of Applied Sciences in Nursing. After passing the Alaska State licensing exam, the students will be Registered Nurses.
