The importance of verifying insurance benefits information

ClariCon, LLC, YKHC’s commercial billing and collections vendor, held the first of what may be several raffles initiated to encourage patients to submit current insurance benefit information.
“ClariCon continues to have many denials for lack of patients, or members, returning insurance questionnaires,” said Joy Tinsley, Billing & Collections Administrator for ClariCon.
As a result of the high number of payment denials, ClariCon sent letters with self-addressed, stamped envelopes to all the guarantors on claims needing certain forms completed and returned to insurance carriers. As thanks to guarantors for completing and returning up-to-date insurance forms within 10 days, ClariCon held a drawing for three gift certificates.
Tinsley continued, “It is a perfect opportunity to stress the importance of verification of accurate insurance benefits at the time patients are being seen as well as returning all communication that their insurance carrier sends out.”
The winners of the awards were selected at random, they are: Tanya Andrew, $50 to Alaska Airlines; Eunice Alexie, $25 to Swanson’s (or a local grocer); and Glenn Mochin, $25 to Brother’s Pizza.
So, the next time you receive a request to return information to your insurance carrier for a claim, send in the updated information—you may win a drawing.
