During the 16th Tribal Unity Gathering held in Bethel April 1–2, YKHC President/CEO Gene Peltola and Board Chair Ray Alstrom presented Honorary Board Member Paul John with a special award recognizing his 40 years of service on the YKHC Board of Directors and his dedication to the health of the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

"Pamyua!" some of the elders shouted at the 16th Annual Tribal Gathering... and the dance continued, "...Wake up in the morning, wake up in the morning, eat healthy foods, eat healthy foods, then... Move it! Move it! Move it, move it..."
Tribal Unity Gathering XVI
Delegates from nearly all the Tribal Councils in the YKHC service area took part in this year's Tribal Unity Gathering. The theme, "A Healthy Mind & Heart," focused reports and presentations on behavioral health issues and cardiovascular disease prevention.

This is a national initiative to heighten awareness of organ, eye, and tissue donation and encourage everyone to register their wishes.
Well Child Wednesday results in more exams
YKHC and the State of Alaska have been partnering to provide EPSDT (Early, Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment) services to the children of the YKHC region for several years. During the past two years, efforts have been stepped up through the "Well Child Wednesday" campaign, which sets aside health aide time each Wednesday to schedule patients for preventive exams.
Pain Medication for Patients Only
Occasionally we receive reports that patients who are not suffering from pain are getting pain medicines from doctors or other patients by various means. We are trying our hardest to prevent this from happening.
Sexually transmitted diseases affect thousands of Alaskans, state reports
April is STD Awareness Month. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) continue to infect thousands of Alaskans and infect some residents at higher rates than others, according to two new reports from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
