YKHC's Hostel for village patients.
Plan ahead when traveling for health care
YKHC Travel Management Center
If you are traveling to Bethel to receive health care at YKDRH, please plan ahead for any unforeseen circumstances.
YKHC has a hostel, Qavartarvik, for authorized persons to stay at. However, there are many times when the hostel and Bethel hotels are full. Please plan for possible alternative lodging options such as staying with family or friends.
When available, the hostel provides safe and affordable short-term lodging for YKDRH patients who are receiving health care and who are in transit from outside Bethel. The hostel will also provide the same services, when necessary, for authorized family members and for medical escorts who are required to accompany patients in transit.
Use of the YKHC hostel is determined solely by physician referral, in accordance with established criteria. All guests at the hostel will pay a fee. However, some may be eligible for reductions on the rates based on family size and income.
All travelers must be aware that regardless of the lodging facility, it is extremely important to bring necessities such as cash, diapers, baby formula, clothing or other personal items that are not covered by YKHC, Medicaid or private insurance.
When being referred to the Emergency Room at YKDRH in Bethel, please bring the Patient Encounter Form (PEF) filled out by the clinic health aide as this will have important information for the ER providers.
Always carry a government issued identification card such as a driver's license or state ID card. (see above article for information about new ID requirements for air travel.)
