The CHAP program would like to recognize Linda Davis, CHA I from Mekoryuk, as the November, 2009, Health Aide of the month.

Linda Davis is an exceptional Health Aide in Mekoryuk. Supervisor Instructor Debbie David says, although she has only been a Health Aide for a year, she has had a very positive impact on the community.

There was an elder in the community with chronic health problems for many years. Linda stepped up with her minimal training and went above and beyond when caring for this sick elder. She made home visits to administer medication and support the patient during end of life care. She comforted the elder and worked with Bethel providers to manage the patient's pain.

Linda remained very calm during the entire process and helped prepare the family and the elder for the expected home death. She was willing to call the family and mediate meetings to discuss an end of life plan.

Despite the many obstacles Linda faces, she has persevered, remained calm, and grown into an excellent high quality health care provider.

Mekoryuk is lucky to have a committed and thoughtful Health Aide.  Linda will continue to grow in her skills and will only become more of an asset to the community of Mekoryuk.

Health Aides represent the sustainability of health care in the YK Delta. Our life qualities depend on their efforts and willingness to leave family at any hour to serve our communities. Each month, YKHC will award special recognition to an outstanding Health Aide.
