The 2013 Annual Rasmuson Education Tour visited Bethel and Napaskiak in August. Three staff members from Rasmuson Foundation along with nine philanthropic organizations were on a week-long Alaska Grant funders tour. They visited the village of Napaskiak and enjoyed a walking tour to the local village tribal store, Z.J. Williams Memorial school, and the Napaskiak health clinic.
Afterwards, a regional luncheon was held in the Paul John Boardroom with AVCP, YKHC, Yuut Elitnaurviat, KYUK, KUC and LKSD in attendance to network with the visiting agencies.
The group went on a driving tour and visited the YKHC and Yuut campuses as well as AVCP’s museum at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center.
Every year the Rasmuson Foundation hosts the grant makers tour as a way to explore the rich cultural history and unique challenges rural Alaska faces. The continuation of the tour included special visits with Alaska dignitaries, Senators, non-profits and includes a salmon fishing trip as well as a visit to Point Barrow and breakfast with Governor Sean Parnell and the First Lady.
