YKHC Pharmacy Services
Medication or Pharmacy Questions?
If you have any questions about your medication or the services of the pharmacy, call 1-800-478-3321, ext. 6382 or 543-6382
Pharmacy Services
When the doctor or mid-level practitioner (PA or NP) sees you at the clinic, they may prescribe medicine for you. The pharmacist will review your prescriptions and health summary and make sure that the medicine prescribed is the best one we have available for your condition. The pharmacy can NOT fill prescriptions from doctors outside of YKHC. Before you leave the pharmacy be sure you and the pharmacist discuss the following:
- The name of your medicine and what it is supposed to do
- When, how and how long to take your medicine
- Common side effects to expect and how to deal with them if they occur
- Whether the medicine is safe to take if pregnant or breastfeeding
If you need to take medicine for a long-term (chronic) condition, your doctor may order refills on your medicine. The pharmacist can then refill your medicine without you having to see a doctor each time.
For Medicine Refills
Village patients, go to your Community Health Aide/Practitioner (CHA/P) and they will phone the refill into the pharmacy using the Village Phone-in Refill Line and the Pharmacy will mail the refill to the Village Clinic.
Bethel Patients
Bethel patients may call the Bethel Phone-in Refill Line (543-6271) and leave a message including your name, chart number, birth date and medication needed. If you call before noon, your medication will be ready for pick up after noon on the next day.
Bethel patients may walk-in to the hospital. Go to Registration and register for the Pharmacy, then go to the Pharmacy and inform the staff of what medication you need. If Registration is closed, go to the ER and register for the Pharmacy. Your refill request will be processed in the order received by the Pharmacy.
If you know that you have no refills left on your prescription, you should make an appointment to see your doctor or mid-level practitioner. Then contact your doctor or mid-level practitioner so that a current prescription can be written for the medication until it is time for your appointment.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medications
Pharmacy stocks a limited number of over-the-counter medications, which, in most cases, can be supplied to you without a prescription. If you are in need of an OTC medication, you should come to the hospital, go to Registration and register for Pharmacy. Then, go to the Pharmacy and inform the Pharmacy staff of what you need. If able, the Pharmacy staff will fill requests in the order they receive them.
Village Pharmacy Services
Pharmacy staff at the hospital works closely with the community health aides to provide pharmacy services to patients living in the villages.
Your health aide can treat many short-term problems using the stock medications regularly supplied by the pharmacy to the village clinic. If your condition requires a medication not available in your village clinic, your doctor or mid-level practitioner will write a prescription and the pharmacy will mail the needed medication to the village clinic.
If you have a chronic health problem that requires medication, you may be placed on the Chronic Medication Refill Program (CMRP), a program that mails refills of your chronic medications to the village clinic every month. Refills of medications not included on the CMRP can be requested through your health aide.
Village Patient Refills
Village patients should go to their Community Health Aide/Practitioner who will phone the village refill line and request your refill for you. You will need to be on the last 7 days of medication for your refill to be processed and your medication will be mailed to the village. Please try to request your refill before you are out of medication to allow time to receive your refill in the mail.
