YK Area Health Education Center

The Learning Center is now the YK Area Health Education Center or YK AHEC.

What is the YK AHEC?

We are a system of education and training programs, services, and administrative systems for current YKHC employees, future YKHC employees, and tribal members of the villages served by YKHC. The many programs offered by the YK AHEC emphasize the commitment of the YKHC Board of Directors to "grow our own" health professionals. Currently at YKHC, 71 percent of the staff are Alaska Natives or Native American. We are committed to increasing this number and placing more tribal members in professional positions.

Career Pathways

Career Pathways facilitates exposure to health careers for school-age students and adult learners as well. For students, the expectation is that they will be more likely to pursue careers in health care and eventually seek employment with YKHC in a health-related field.
