Rural Human Services
The Rural Human Services program is operated by a strategic partnership between the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation. The State of Alaska-Department of Health and Human Services funds the program. RHS graduates and students deal with crisis situations; their strengths are enhanced by completion of the Rural Human Services program. They learn about resources available and the processes involved in their line of work. A current cohort of 18 began their studies in August 2003 and will complete their program in May 2004.
Yuut Elitnaurviat or "The People's Learning Center"
This joint project is a partnership between YKHC, Lower Kuskokwim School District, Association of Village Council Presidents, City of Bethel, Coastal Villages Region Fund, Bethel Native Corporation, AVCP Regional Housing Authority, and the Kuskokwim Campus - UAF. These agencies have come together to construct a vocational training center that will focus on those in the 8th to 14th grades and lead them into career paths in the construction, health, education, and childhood development fields. The Learning Center is playing a key role in this project by developing the health careers curriculum and providing resources to the partnership in many ways.
