Nicotine Media and Education Outreach
Raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco use is an essential component of YKHC's nicotine prevention and treatment efforts.

The program regularly publishes articles, advertisments and information in the YKHC Messenger Newsletter and local newspapers. Public service announcements are also produced for broadcast on KYUK radio. Outreach staff make presentations at community health fairs and school classrooms. The program has produced culturally-specific posters and brochures to raise awareness about tobacco use and to publicize the program.

The feedback on all media has been overwhelmingly positive. It continues to be the number one referral source for all program client referrals.

With the statistics firmly indicating that the program has had such a large, positive impact thus far, the future of Nicotine Control and the health of the people of the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta are tied directly together. The future is a bright and healthy one, free of tobacco use.
