Willie Lake,
Optimetric Technician

Willie Lake, a proud grandfather, father and husband is the son of Alfred and the late Bertha Lake of Akiak. He is committed to people in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Region and has provided eye care services for more than 28 years.

"I attended Chemawa Indian High School in Oregon and went to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks for half a semester. As part of my job training as an Eye Care Technician, I went to Alaska Native Medical Center and studied Optometry, which is refraction of the eye, Opticianry, which is eyewear and materials, and Ophthalmology, which specializes in detection of eye disease and abnormality.

"I am very fortunate to have furthered my education through training at the Anchorage Native Medical Eye Center to enhance my ability in eye care. YKHC has played a big role throughout my career, and look where it has taken me.

"I challenge YOU to continue your education and to meet your goal. Each day we learn and when there's a 'will' there's a 'way.' Remember, there is no such word as 'can't!'"
