Plumbing Apprentices from Kasigluk, Napakiak, and Bethel have completed a two-week training session that ended on August 13, giving the apprentices crucial training for successful careers.
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Apprenticeship class received hands-on instruction in the classroom and in the field, including a week of boiler safety and mechanics for a Level 4 Boiler Licensure. The second week of training included testing on plumbing codes and backflow preventors.
The Apprentices also got a rare opportunity to look at large boiler mechanics when the Lower Kuskokwim School District allowed them to observe their annual boiler inspection and repair routine.
The Apprenticeship Program provides training opportunities for Plumbers, Carpenters, and Electricians who are Step-up Apprentices from the Association of Village Council Presidents Regional Housing Authority (AVCP RHA) and Alaska Works Partnership (AWP) Program, or Apprentices employed by the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC). AVCP and YKHC sponsor the program, which is managed by Yuut Elitnaurviat.
The program follows guidelines set by the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
Congratulations to all the Apprentices who put in the hard work to complete the training!
