YKHC is building an entirely new Prematernal Home to serve as a home away from home for pregnant women who must travel to Bethel to await the birth of their baby.
YKHC has recently brought a prenatal program called Centering Pregnancy to the YK Delta. The Centering Pregnancy program provides pregnant women with many opportunities to learn about being pregnant, child birth, and parenting.
Many people may not be aware of the differences in what the credentials mean following a health care provider’s name. Some may be confused when they see a PA, CHP, or NHP stating their credentials or expertise.

Did you know that approximately 3,000 people in the YK delta fall off of the State’s Medicaid eligibility coverage list each month? Sometimes it’s due to a change in income or personal situation, but many simply fail to renew their enrollment coverage on time.
It is valuable in the YK Delta to understand that activities of subsistence living are methods of exercise. Fishing, gathering, and other fishcamp duties contribute to health by burning calories, increasing strength, and improving the functioning of the cardiovascular system.
June’s Health Aide of the Month is Gloria George, of Mtn. Village. Says her on-call co-worker: “I was so thankful she told me I am not alone when I am on call, that whatever calls I get, I don’t need to respond alone and she kept her word.”
On June 19 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Native American and Alaska Native tribes in the Salazar, Secretary of the Interior v. Ramah Navajo Chapter case. The decision holds the government liable for failing to pay full contract support costs to tribes.
When Jean Brinich moved to Bethel in 1994, she brought incredible experience in health and science education, volunteering, and Health Aide training. She soon put it all to good use at YKHC as a nurse practitioner.
