Thanks to more than $600,000 grant made available through HUD/Indian Community Development Block grant and additional funds from the Denali Commission, Chevak will be able to provide health care services at a new clinic.

“It’s all about increasing access to healthcare,” explains Greg McIntyre, the Vice President of  Support Services at the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation.  This clinic has been in the works for some time, but due to national budget cuts, funding for the project was denied twice.  However, this did not discourage YKHC Capital Projects and Grant Writer staff from applying again.

The awards were announced by HUD/Office of Native American Programs a few weeks ago.

The 3,480 sq. ft. primary health center will serve about 3,610 patient encounters annually, and will begin to see patients as early as 2015.
