Booster shots provide extra protection and are highly recommended!
Who is eligible for a booster shot?
- Anyone age 5 or older who received their second full dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 5 months ago.
- Anyone age 18 or older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago.
Who is eligible for a second booster shot?
1. Individuals age 50 or older who received their first booster shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 4 months ago.
2. Individuals age 12 or older with certain immunocompromising health conditions who received their first booster shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 4 months ago.
3. Individuals age 18 or older who received a booster shot of Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 4 months ago may receive a second booster using a mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
Why get the vaccine?
- The vaccine is safe and highly effective at protecting people from severe illness or death from COVID-19.
- Science shows that unvaccinated people are most likely to get seriously ill and to spread the disease around their community. Getting your vaccine not only keeps you safe, but your elders, loved ones and community.
- Side effects from the vaccine are almost always mild and usually disappear within 48 hours.
- YKHC has administered tens of thousands of shots. There have been very few allergic reactions (or adverse effects) and no deaths from the vaccine worldwide.
- The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are fully authorized by the FDA.
- The vaccine offers reliable long-term protection. Even if you have had COVID-19, you should still get vaccinated to protect you from getting infected again.
- COVID-19 vaccines are being administered under the most intensive vaccine safety monitoring effort in US history.
Why get booster shots?
- Boosters offers an added layer of protection against the virus, including all new variants identified to date.
- While COVID-19 vaccines continue to be vital in combating the virus, data shows that their effectiveness lessens over time, especially in individuals ages 65 and older.
- Data from clinical trials has shown that boosters increases the immune response and helps prevent severe disease.
- Like the vaccine, there have been very few adverse effects and no deaths linked to booster shots. Mild side effects are possible. While unpleasant, these side effects are your body learning to fight the virus and almost always dissipate within 48 hours.
What to expect?
- Wear a mask to your appointment. The provider will verify some information about you and then administer the shot.
- Wait: After you get your shot, you’ll be asked to wait at the clinic to watch for any highly uncommon adverse reactions.
- At home: You might feel sore at the injection site. Other side effects from the vaccines can be fever and fatigue, which can be treated with ibuprofen or Tylenol. Don’t worry, it is not possible to get COVID-19 from your shot! You should feel back to normal after about 48 hours.
- We’re here for you: If at any point you have questions or concerns, we’re just a call away. Call the COVID-19 hotline at 907-543-6949.
