Community Health & Wellness

As a healthcare organization, YKHC is committed not only to healing illness, but to promoting wellness.

Tobacco Prevention

In addition to the prevention of tobacco use, through community outreach and education, we offer cessation services to anyone interested in quitting. A trained Tobacco Treatment Specialist is available to provide support throughout the entire process. Replacement therapies are available, including the nicotine patch, gum, and other pharmacotherapies. We offer many resources to help people quit, including Text to Quit and QuitLine. Call our program today to find out more.

Tobacco-Free Campus: In February 2018, all YKHC facilities and grounds became tobacco-free. This employees, patients and guests are prohibited from using tobacco of any sort (including cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and iqmik) on all YKHC grounds .

Diabetes Prevention and Control

Our program offers a variety of outreach, preventive, and clinical services aimed at addressing the changing needs of our customers. Our staff include Outreach Specialists and Clinical Diabetes Educators.

Outreach Specialists. Our outreach specialists provide diabetes education presentations at schools, tribal gatherings and throughout the region upon request. Outreach specialists are able to conduct diabetes risk assessments at community events (and when requested); and work with communities to encourage physical activity.

Clinical Diabetes Educators. Our clinical educators provide self-management education, inpatient and outpatient services, education for those at high risk for diabetes and patients with gestational diabetes, serve as a resource for health care teams providing patient care, be a patient advocate in delivery of diabetes care, provide medical nutrition therapy, and participate in village-based multi-disciplinary clinics (where patients receive a variety of services).
