Health Education Opportunities

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Area Health Education Center (AHEC), sponsored by YKHC, is one of five regional centers for the program. The program’s goal is to implement educational activities, involving health professions, and to expose students to primary care delivery in rural and/or underserved areas. Alaska’s AHECs have a presence in Bethel, Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow), Anchorage, Fairbanks and Sitka.

Dental Health Aide Therapist Sponsorship

Connecting rural health providers to continuing Education Courses

Our AHEC team supports rural providers seeking continuing education credits to maintain their certifications. Internal training is offered for Annual Mandatory Orientation, Customer Service Training and Workforce Development. These trainings include mandatory training requirements and certifications required by The Joint Commission.

Our AHEC staff coordinate opportunities that provide exposure to healthcare careers for students, including classroom speakers, facility tours and job shadow experiences.

We are proud to host clinical rotations in the following departments: Dental, Optometry, Pharmacy, Medical, Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, Environmental Health and Physical Therapy.

Medical Residents will be considered if they are from Alaska and in their third or fourth year. International students are not considered for placement. We also offer students the opportunity to apply for Travel Reimbursement.

Healthcare Apprenticeships
