One death, one hospitalization and forty-six new cases of COVID-19 November 20-22

On November 20, YKHC reports twenty-eight new cases of COVID-19 in the YK Delta.

On November 21, YKHC reports one death, one new in-region hospitalization and thirteen new cases of COVID-19 in the YK Delta.

One Death
It is with profound sadness YKHC reports that on November 20, a YK Delta resident in their 70s died due to complications of COVID-19. The next of kin have been notified. YKHC sends our deepest condolences to the loved ones mourning the loss of this individual. This is the 45th COVID-19 death associated with the YK Delta region.

One In-Region Hospitalization

One COVID-19 positive individual was admitted into the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital. This is the 122nd individual hospitalized in-region due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Updates and Community Information

Vaccinations: YKHC strongly encourages all people 5 years and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Booster shots:  Most YK Delta residents 18 or older, who are 6 months past their second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, are eligible for a booster. Everyone ages 18 or older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months ago is also eligible.

To schedule a vaccine appointment for children ages 5 to 11: In Bethel, call 543-6949. In villages, please call your local clinic

COVID-19 testing: All people who are experiencing symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, or diminished sense of taste or smell) or who are a close contact of known positive cases are encouraged to get tested as soon as possible. 

  • In Bethel, mobile testing is available in the parking lot across from the hospital from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Testing is also available on the first floor of the hospital (enter through the main doors). Walk-ins available or call 543-6949 to schedule an appointment. 
  • In surrounding communities, call your local clinic for more information.

Additionally, continue to practice protective measures such as practicing regular hand-washing, avoiding hosting or attending large gatherings, and frequently disinfecting high-touch surfaces.

Case statements are published the next business day after cases are identified (e.g. Monday cases are published Tuesday. Friday and weekend cases are published Monday. Cases identified over a holiday are reported the next business day.) Whenever possible, YKHC will notify patients and call the affected communities the day cases are identified
