Two deaths, five hospitalizations and sixty-seven new COVID-19 cases in the YK Delta October 16-18

On October 16, YKHC reports one death and forty-two new cases of COVID-19 in the YK Delta.

One Death
It is with profound sadness YKHC reports that on October 9, a YK Delta resident in their 60s died due to complications of COVID-19. The next of kin have been notified. YKHC sends our deepest condolences to the loved ones mourning the loss of this individual. This is the 34th COVID-19 death associated with the YK Delta region.

On October 17, YKHC reports one death, two hospitalizations and eleven new cases of COVID-19 in the YK Delta.

One Death
It is with profound sadness YKHC reports that late in the day on October 16th, a YK Delta resident in their 60s died due to complications of COVID-19. The next of kin have been notified. YKHC sends our deepest condolences to the loved ones mourning the loss of this individual. This is the 35th COVID-19 death associated with the YK Delta region.

Two In-Region Hospitalizations
Two COVID-19 positive individuals were admitted into the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital. These are the 105th and 106th individuals hospitalized in-region due to COVID-19.

On October 18, YKHC reports three hospitalizations and fourteen new cases of COVID-19 in the YK Delta.

Three In-Region Hospitalizations
Three COVID-19 positive individuals were admitted into the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital. These are the 107th, 108th and 109th individuals hospitalized in-region due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Updates and Community Information

Vaccinations: YKHC strongly encourages all people 12 years and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Pfizer booster: COVID-19 booster shots are now available for certain individuals who completed a two-dose series of the Pfizer vaccine and are six months past the second dose of vaccine.

COVID-19 testing: All people who are experiencing symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, or diminished sense of taste or smell) or who are a close contact of known positive cases are encouraged to get tested as soon as possible. 

  • In Bethel, mobile testing is available in the parking lot across from the hospital from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Testing is also available on the first floor of the hospital (enter through the main doors). Walk-ins available or call 543-6949 to schedule an appointment. 
  • In surrounding communities, call your local clinic for more information.

Additionally, continue to practice protective measures such as practicing regular hand-washing, avoiding hosting or attending large gatherings, and frequently disinfecting high-touch surfaces.

Case statements are published the next business day after cases are identified (e.g. Monday cases are published Tuesday. Friday and weekend cases are published Monday. Cases identified over a holiday are reported the next business day.) Whenever possible, YKHC will notify patients and call the affected communities the day cases are identified
