New room service-style meals at hospital promises increased patient satisfaction and efficiency

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is excited to offer patients admitted at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital an improved inpatient dining experience. Now, patients staying overnight in Labor and Delivery, Inpatient and Detention Emergency Services (DES) can select their meals from a menu and enjoy more flexibility with their meal delivery time.

This way of offering meals to our inpatients, also referred to as “room service-style” meal service, has been shown to increase patient satisfaction, as well as improve efficiency and reduce food waste. Prior to implementation of this system, patients staying overnight at the hospital did not have the options to select from a preferred meal or to order throughout the designated meal period.

For a look at the current menu offerings, please see the sample menu below.

Executive Chef Paulette Caguioa credits the successful rollout of the room service-style food delivery service to a cross-departmental team that worked on this project for many years. “We could not have accomplished what we have without everyone doing their part,” said Caguioa. “We are pleased to be able to serve the hospital, our patients, and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region in this improved capacity.”
